2008 NER Pub Series Men’s Standings After 2 Races

Another very interesting foray out to Hurricane Gulch in Yarmouth. Along with everything else, the leaderboard was totally swamped. Series leader (after Doyle’s) Joe Navas wrenched an ankle on Wednesday and defending Pub prince Terry McNatt shook loose of Kingston’s John Noland to once again don the Hops wreath.

Moving up in close contention are Mike McGrane (adidas), Lee Danforth (Hurtin’ For Certain), Chris Spinney (Whirlaway) and Derek Dorval (Winner’s Circle). Looking at the Masters standings, even at this early juncture, we’re predicting enough Masters will stay in the Open division that Woburn’s Chris Smith will once again take the top prize (tho it’s equally likely he could just move up 2 slots in the Open category).

Oh, the intrigue, much of which will become more apparent after the next Series’ race on July 2 http://wwwrunthecircle.com  Pat Polletta 5K. No longer will 89 names be listed among Open runners as the “Miss Two, You’re Through” rule kicks into effect.

Speaking of rules, we’re half inclined to put Irish Village into the Series every year until they finally have a decent day – i.e. as in better than 2005 (Nor’easter), 2006 (Nor’easter) and 2008 (Wind advisory, raw, steady rain). Feedback? We make the rules, we break the rules.

Get well wishes to Paul Hammond who geared down to a 12:00+ minute pace after blowing a hammy after halfway and got 0 points. Also, congrats to the following aquanaughts who grasped a hard-earned poing within their divisions: Jimmy Fallon (Master), Tom Foltz (Senior) and Joe Brown (Veteran).
