Unger Aces Corrib, Women’s Shake-up in Pub Race No. 3

Unger Aces Corrib, Women’s Shake-up

(A rush job here to
get this in the e-newsletter before noon but check back by the end of the day
and the revised standings will be posted)

We’ll have to quiz GBTC coach Tom Derderian on who exactly Corrib women’s winner Liz Ryan is. Ryan was flying at a 6:02
pace to post up 1st in 18:41, but more important to Publicans was: Where was Holly Madden? down just 1-point to the
B.A.A.’s Amanda Watters, who
finished 2nd in 19:49 with Team Fabulous titan Candice Gagnon 4th in 20:08 and RI’s Jackie Jackman 6th in 20:38.

Madden was spotted on the course, but walking backwards. A
quick OMG email was returned by Holly with the news that a stomach bug she
thought she was over bit down hard at the mile mark and it was sayonara for the
race.

Five women move ahead of Holly in the overall standings,
including vivacious Lisa Williams
who also pulls ahead of Holly in the 40+ division with HFC’s Eileen Cakouros moving to within 2
points of Holly. Warren, RI’s Marge
Bellisle
placed 14th among women in 21:21 to hold the top spot among
Seniors, while chased by 2-3 Pubsters Claire
McManus
(21:45) and Victoria Bok
(22:55).

Madden can rebound, and plans to, but not so Evan’s Run
winner Scott Wisnaskas, AWOL and
passed by 9 men in the standings. TJ
Unger
further solidified his lead with an overall win in 16-flat. 2-3
runners Lee Danforth (16:18) of HFC
and top Master Greg Picklesimer
(16:20) of SRR are also 2-3 in the Series while 5th placer Chris Klucznik is 4th.

Young gun Chris
Lobstom
, 23, appears to have jumped from 8th to 5th after placing 6th
overall at Corrib. Senior stud and former 3x Pub Series champion Paul Hammond placed 10th overall in
17:26 to stay ahead of Jimmy Fallon
in the 50+ category, while CSU’s Theo
Kinderman
stepped it up to break a tie with Whirlaway’s Ken Warren and take over 3rd.

JP’s George Braun
lost his 1st 60+ divisional Pub outing to none other than NER’s own John Barbour (18:48 to 19:31). John
& wife Helen now live on LaGrange Street across from Billings Field and we
thank them for the delightful tea and crumpets served at their abode post-race.

Rich Paulson
continued his march toward 70+ glory with Dave
Pember
and Tom Abbott holding
tough in the 2-3 positions. Finishing 8th in this division was none other than
our lone Octogenarian contestant, Larry
Cole
, who once again made it over the bridge from Harwich.

Ann-Marie McDonald
(aka the purple lady) noted her time atop the 70+ division was fast coming to
an end with the recent inclusion of Jan Holmquist (who ran 23:40). With only
3-points given in this division it may take another race or two, but yes‰Û¢
