NER Pub Series IX - Doyle's Emerald Necklace 5M

A delight to find Doyle's defending women's champion and 2005 Pub Series runner-up Christin Doneski back with hubby James in tow (26 big points in the men's race).
Christin (2nd) ran 15 seconds faster than 2005 and is the ersatz leader as Doyle's winner Heather Cappello won't be following the Series (former PC runner Cappello was the only female to win a Pub Series race outside of Christin and Mimi Fallon in 2005).

Ms. Fallon, training for Boston, is sidelined with an inury at the moment. Continuing her move up the ranks is 2005 perennial bronze medalist Meaghan Shaw (4th) of HFC, currently sporting silver as former Brandeis All-American Mariko Holbrook (3rd) also isn't on the hops and malt circuit, but 2 X Pub champion Miae Jacobs (5th and 1st Master) is back as is HFC's Eileen Cakouros (6th).

Cape Elizabeth, ME's Katie Payson (7th, 2nd Master) deserves watching approaching the 2nd Series race where things should start to sort out. In earth shattering news, NER has seen fit to expand the Senior women's scoring from the Top 6 to the Top 8 given the array of talent on hand at Doyle's.

In the last year, Senior women's CR holder at Doyle's - Newton's Eileen Troy - has come on board with NER and performed admirably as one of Fitzy's Frisky Felines at the 2005 Cape Cod Marathon Relay. Will she continue on the circuit? Perhaps not if pal Sue Maz (2nd) can talk her out of it. Then you've got Barbara Wilson (15 seconds behind Sue) who's on board this year, and Sue Kenney and Marianne Withington...and away we go!

As the men fell all over themselves post-race in the parking lot at Doyle's it was inspiring to see the women of the Pub Series (a calendar in the making?) comport themselves with dignity and decorum; hence, a great showing and congrats to all those taking on the Pub Series challenge.

Road Rage: A last mention of the Rules of Engagement - anyone looking for a jacket for running all six races, to be scored throughout the Series, the party, the swag, etc. Needs to be a subscriber to NER no later than the second race in the Series (Irish Village 5M, Yarmouth, MA, May 13). Only one (1) subscription is required per household. One missed race is admissible, miss two, you're through (tough love). Good luck to everyone down the road...
