Starting line - Central High School Athletic Field (Broad Street & Somerville Avenue); Finish line - inside the Philadelphia Navy Yard (at the end of Broad Street in South Philadelphia).

WHY: This Philadelphia tradition attracted fitness enthusiasts, American Cancer Society supporters, and elite runners competing for prize money totaling $10,500.

Broad Street was the focus of health and fitness enthusiasts as runners and their friends and families headed to the Run's finish line activities at the end of Broad Street in the Philadelphia Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. Race Director Jim Marino stated, "This event continues to grow with the large surge of women taking part and the great word of mouth publicity among the runners themselves". The gender gap continued to close as 6,150 females participated compared to 7,414 male participants in 2006. Runners from over 53 States and foreign countries participated in this year's race.

BAGHDAD BROAD STREET RUN A SUCCESS A Baghdad version of the Broad Street Run was staged in Iraq just hours before the race. LT Colonel Chris Lauchner organized the event; He and his wife, Carole, have run the Broad Street Run several times. About 100 soldiers participated in the event, six loops of 1.67 miles inside the American Embassy compound. Todd Dye won the race in 1:06:52. Lauchner finished 13th in 1:15:29. His wife Carole finished the Philadelphia race in 1:37:52.
