Paddy Kelly's was a chilling race to watch and especially to
run. Kenyanesque Kevin Gray ran away from the usual Pub
suspects, to which you can add former W. Virginia runner
Tom Dion and a healthy Michael McGrane.
Early season chill factor goes to Liverpool's Chris
Teague. The Masters pack is tight. Poor Jimmy Fallon
jumped the gun, bonked 800 meters out and was gargling
cream soda and stuffing twinkies down his gullet post-race.
Everyone else was helping themselves to the hearty
libations proffered by the Time Out Cafe.
Sentimental favorite remains HFC's Paul Corcoran,
the original Masters champ currently esconced in 10th.
Senior dark horse Jean-Guy Gaetano
Barra spent 11 days in Eire with NER in 2001,
developing a fondness for Guinness and exhibiting
the endurance he'll need for Pub Series VII. The
Vets scrap is a bare knuckle blueprint from 2003
between Iron Joe Drugan and Vet champ Dave
Pember.
In addition, there's a certifiable 70+ contender in
the Marshfield RR's Bob Hillman, a Cabot
Trail teammate from 1992. Bob still hasn't acquired that
parcel of land in Cheticamp in the Cape Breton
Highlands, so we'll most likely have him aboard in 2004.
A Final Reminder: Folks need to be subscribers to
the mag by Doyles to be eligible for scoring and all the
Series-end swag (i.e. the jackets, the $$, the party, the
glasses, etc.). Anyone and everyone is encouraged to
participate in the Pub Series races, but to preserve our
sanity and keep our merchandise sponsor solvent we're
following the tact of every other series around when it
comes to awards.
