NER Pub Series Women's Standings After 4 of 6 Races

The most dramatic highs and lows at Napper Tandy's were hit by Perkins School for the Blind singer John Castillo, 14, who delivered a superlative rendition of the national anthem. A favorite of Irish Tom Hurley, John sang the national anthem on Opening Day in 2003 at Fenway with track star Marla Runyon throwing out the first ball.

The highly competitive tete-a-tete between Pub Series leader Mimi Fallon and rising star Christin Doneski played out on the residential streets of Norwood and was as close as ever - at least for the first two miles which Christin led. Mimi pulled alongside at the turnaround and then pulled ahead by 16 seconds to give her a 2 point lead in the standings.

Unlike the men's standings which saw some dramatic shifts, the women's competition was, well, very lady-like. Veteran's leader Catherine Farrell of the Cambridge Sports Union ran a time that was second fastest among the Senior set (behind only birthday gal Sue Maslowski), that vaulted her to 13th in the Overall standings.

Don't fret if blown away by Ms. Farrell, she regularly wins her division in the USATF-NE Series, most recently at the Stowe 8M. Next opportunity for histrionics - The Halfway to St. Patrick's Day 5K in Manchester, NH on Sept. 13.
