2006 NER Pub Series Women's Standings After the Common Fence Point 5-Miler, the 4th of 6 Races

As mentioned oh so briefly in the men's revue (because it is the men's review and they're sensitive) Eileen Cakouros had a better race than her 2005 Pub Series champion hubby, Jason, finishing just one place and 17 seconds behind Common Fence Point winner and Pub Series leader Christin Doneski.

Eileen's showing refamiliarized her HFC teammate, Meaghan Shaw with that 2005 bronze glow, but Meaghan retains her silver position in the Series, 7 points behind Christin and 6 points ahead of top Master Miae Jacobs.

Eileen holds down 4th while Ana Hubert benefits from Mimi Fallon's absence (Have your fun, miss one; miss two, you're through), moving into Fallon's vacated 5th position overall and 2nd place Masters position (Hubby Buddy celebrated with a superior vintage post-race).

Pity the plight of Pub Series stalwart Sue Maslowski, whose hamstring gave out during the race. "I never pass her in a race, but I did today," attested daughter Ally, who was recovering from a wedding the day before. Sue managed a lousy 6-points overall and a lousy 1-point in the Senior division, where feisty Sue Kenney has usurped the lead by a solitary point. Ouch!

Sue's headed to the Shamrock Half Marathon (VA) in two weeks with Guy Barra, whose body couldn't handle the rigors of the Series, and Dr. Bob Hillman, who's being pummeled in the 70+ division by NH's Jim McLaughlin. Misery loves company, three strikes and your out...and all that, but we wish them all the best of luck in VA.

Congrats to our only Nutmegger-Bethel, CT's Caroline Smith, 29-who continues to fight the good fight while holding down the 10th position overall (a slot ahead of the Bay State's Marianne Withington), and to a surprisingly speedy (7:38 pace) Maureen Tumbleton who burst on the leaderboard for the first time with 36 points.

Next race is the Portland "Trail to Ale" 10K in Portland, ME on Sept. 17. Plenty of info, including text and on-line registrations, maps, party news, contact info, etc. at: Sip Here
