USATF NEW ENGLAND 2005 GRAND PRIX SELECTED
Steve Vaitones
Boston, November 9
Brandeis University

If you liked the 2004 USATF-NE Grand Prix series, you'll like the 2005 just as much.
The 2005 Road Race Championships composing the Grand Prix series were selected Monday evening, and in the end, found the same seven races on the schedule for next year. Over 60 members cast votes through the bid meeting at Brandeis University.

Nineteen races submitted bids for next year's series, with spirited bidding in each category. And though the series will mirror this past year, only the Ollie 5 Mile was a runaway winner with over 90 percent of the votes. Cape Cod Marathon edged Bay State by 1 vote in the second round of voting, and both the 5K and 10K took three ballots to get the ultimate winner.

The 2005 schedule:
5K: Rhody 5K (Lincoln RI), June 5
8K: Ollie/McCourt Classic (So.Boston), October 2
10K: Whirlaway 10K (Methuen MA), June 26
Mid-distance: New Bedford 1/2 Marathon (MA) March 20, Stowe (VT) 8 Miler
July 17; Bedford Rotary 12K (NH) May 21 - in as "wild card"
Marathon: Cape Cod, Falmouth MA, October 30
