Annual Somerville summer road race takes part in New England Runner Pub Series

12th Annual Khoury's Summer Steamer 4M
Sunday, July 13, 2003 at 10am
Khoury's State Spa
118 Broadway, East Somerville, MA

Join us for our 12th annual summer road race and compete in the New England Runner Pub Series. Third in the series, the Summer Steamer is a challenging 4.0 mile wheel-measured course (shortened this year due to construction) beginning at Khoury's State Spa and winding through the streets of Somerville. Infamous for the crushing run up and down Winter Hill in just the first mile, the Steamer's course record still stands with the blistering 20:07 run by Colin Peddie, local competitor and owner of Marathon Sports, in 1995.

The first 300 runners receive free t-shirts; prizes given to the top finishers. And plan to stick around for a post-race party at Khoury's with entertainment by the IT Band, our own runners/musicians! A portion of proceeds to benefit St. Benedict's Little Flower School.

For a printable race application click onto Race Applications on this site's homepage, or to register online, visit Somerville RR or e-mail: Steamer - or call 617-524-1121. Applications are also available the day of the race.

Runners who compete in all six races in the New England Runner Pub Series, sponsored by the magazine, receive a special Pub Series jacket. For more information about the Pub Series, visit the New England Runner Web site at www.nerunner.com or call 617-232-8778.

Somerville Road Runners has served the Boston running community since 1996, appealing to runners of all ages and abilities. No one is too old, too slow or too large! SRR sponsors five major road races every year, including the Summer Steamer, that attract thousands of runners from across New England.

Committed to the community in which many of its members live, SRR donated more than $8,000 to various non-profit organizations, such as the Somerville High Track Pac, Somerville Homeless Coalition, Somerville Auxiliary Police and Project Bread. Many members of SRR volunteer for a variety of local charity events, including the Jimmy Fund Boston Marathon Walk. For more information or to join SRR, visit:
Somerville RR or contact club president Tom Hagerty at 617-718-0187.
