NER Pub Series Men's Standings After 5 of 6 Races

One Last Gulp

As Jason Cakouros rampages onward like a mead guzzling Viking, the only real suspense left in the Men's Series approaching Paddy's Shillelagh Shuffle 3M on Oct. 16 is whether Chris Spinney will survive the 60 second challenge with women's leader Mimi Fallon.

The Spinster bravely hung on the heels of Masters arch rival Tom Doody to clock 16:15 and was joined by teammate Paul Hammond who'd arrived 11 seconds earlier. As soon as the clock hit 17:15 the duo screamed their lungs out for Ms Fallon who arrived in 17:47. Spinney was later observed cooing in the ear of one of the Finlandia girls about his upcoming dinner for 10. We'll see...

The aforementioned Mr. Doody is still locked in a duel for the 4th $ slot with CT's Brendan Cashman who'll be commuting to Paddy's from his new digs in PA come Oct. Brendan, we hardly knew ye (as Irish Tom would belch).

Welcome back Tom Kieley. Citizen Tom missed his first Pub Series race in three years when he was rammed by an uninsured, intoxicated teen while traveling to the last Pub race in Norwood. Tom wanted to soldier on although his van was totaled. Unfortunately, or fortunately, his wife saw the van before she saw Tom and visions of Pub glory were put to rest.

Defending Pub champion Eric Beauchesne's recurring back spasms brought about by his momentous carrying of a keg across the finish line at the Malden IA Pub race a few years ago have subsided, due in large part to physical therapy and clean living. The Keg was back in form at Halfway.

Did we say there was little suspense left in the Men's Series? The Masters division is still a rumble, $$ berths are still up for grabs. Will Ms Fallon break the Hurley Curse? Will she break Spinney one week after he runs Chicago? Will Brian Mahoney show at Paddys and redeem himself at sub-5 pace or will he continue his quest for this year's Crash & Burn award?

All this and more at Paddy's on Oct. 16. One last gulp for 2005.
