NER have been long-time fans of the Cape Cod Marathon, from the days we used to sleep al fresco (with the geese) on Race Director Courtney & Caroline BirdÛªs expansive yard the day before the Falmouth Road Race, to the present where weÛªve ÛÏupscaledÛ to the Falmouth Inn for marathon weekend.
In 1996 ÛÏThe Race Where Everybody Knows Your NameÛ was designated NERÛªs ÛÏRace of the Year.Û In 2001 we started the tradition of supplying the Jimmy Buffet influenced BA-HA Brothers for the post-race party that takes place following the marathon from 3:00-7:00 at the Falmouth Inn.
The Off-Shore Ale Company supplys $2.00 product and the dancing seems to start earlier every year. ItÛªs one of the favorite gigs for the Band, which has opened for Jimmy Buffet at the Tweeter Center and plays at BuffetÛªs Margaritaville in the winter.
Three years ago we started sponsoring the Relay Team of FitzyÛªs Frisky Felines who range in age from 52-59 and KICKS BUTT.
In 2007, we followed suit on the menÛªs side with the NER All Stars. Consisting in age from 44 to 60, the All Stars have won it all in 2:32:01 for a 5:48 pace.
Between the two teams there are three former Cape Cod champions: Marge Bellisle, Jimmy Fallon and Larry Olsen.
