NER has been a gold sponsor of the Maine Marathon for the past several years. The sponsorship is one of five at this level, equaling $3.5K in cash, goods or services. Previous to that, the Maine Marathon was NERÛªs 2004 pick as ÛÏRace of the Year.Û And previous to that, NER cub reporter Bob Fitzgerald engaged in one of the three stupidest things he’s ever done in his life, which was to run (stagger through) the old Casco Bay Half Marathon after a 10-day honeymoon in Camden (Hello, Cappy’s Chowder House!).
A rugged coastline, beautiful scenery and great hosts in the Maine Track Club and Race Director Howard Spear (not to mention the fabulous city of Portland) give this event an engaging community appeal.
The race has earned well-deserved plaudits from first-time and veteran marathoners alike. Other than some course alterations, nothing has changed over the years except for the race having gotten slightly larger and friendlier (if thatÛªs possible).
On Saturday, Oct. 4 of 2008, NER will have a booth at the Maine Marathon expo. We hope to see you there.
