32nd Annual Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women

WHAT:           The 32nd Annual Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women, a Columbus Day tradition in Boston.  This is a 10K (6.2 mile) race that, for the
                        14th time, was selected by USA Track &
Field as the USA National 10K Championship Race for Women. The Race
attracts an elite
                        field of world-class runners, as well as casual runners, who join to celebrate health and fitness.

WHERE:        The Race begins at Boston Common, at the corner of
Beacon and Charles Streets. Winding down Memorial Drive along the
                       River and Commonwealth Ave., the scenic run will
end on Charles Street between the Public Garden and the Boston Common.

WHO:             More than 7,000 women of all ages and fitness levels are expected to participate in Columbus Day tradition.  
                        Top elite runners will include:

        • Elva Dryer, 2nd at the 2008 New Haven Road Race 20K and 3rd, at the 2007 Tufts 10K for Women
        • Molly Huddle, 2nd at the 2008 US Olympic Team Trials, 5, 000m
        • Amy Rudolph, 5th at the 2008 36th CIGNA Falmouth Road Race
        • Renee Metivier-Baillie, 5th at the  2008 36th CIGNA Falmouth Road Race
        • Ann Alyankak: 7th at the 2008 US Olympic Team Trials – Marathon
        • Rebecca Donaghue: 5th at the 2007 Tufts 10K for Women

                        Additional runners:

        • A
          group of more than 15 women who have run the Tufts Health Plan 10K for
          Women every year since the Race‰Ûªs inception, 32 years ago.   
        • The
          ACC Running Club of Brighton, MA, a club committed to providing
          students with an opportunity to run after school and learn the benefits
          of adopting a healthy lifestyle.   
        • ‰ÛÏTedy‰Ûªs
          Team,‰Û a group of women who run in honor of Tedy Bruschi‰Ûªs support of
          stroke victims and the American Heart Association.  

                        And, New England‰Ûªs own, Joan Benoit Samuelson will also be on hand.   

Tufts Health Plan will maintain its annual
tradition of giving to a not-for-profit organization focused on
improving women‰Ûªs health         OF GIVING:    by presenting the
American Heart Association, an organization committed to raising
awareness of the impact of heart disease and
                        stroke on women, with a $10,000 cash grant.
 This award is the second of a five-year commitment to the

The Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women is presented by Tufts Health Plan. Additional sponsors include: New Balance, City Sports,
                       Glaceau Smart Water, Mix 98.5, TV 38, Boston Sports Clubs, The Boston Globe, Luna Bar, Oldies 103.3, and Dole.

Charles Street, between Boylston and Beacon Street, will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and between Beacon and Longfellow
CLOSINGS:  Circle from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Beacon Street,
between the State House and Charles Street will be closed from 11:00
a.m. to
                       12:15 p.m. Boylston Street, between Tremont
Street and Charles Street, will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
and will be the
                       location of event-day registration and the Health & Fitness Pavilion.
