Great Weather, Record Field Expected at Doyle’s

Internationally renowned Doyle’s Cafe ‰ÛÓ You’ve seen it in the movie Mystic River, you’ve seen proprietors Gerry Burke and Gerry Jr. in numerous Sam Adams commercials (It was Doyle’s tap lines through which Sam Adams first flowed in the USA) ‰ÛÓ You’ve seen former Doyle’s champion Bob O’Hara slumped over by the cask conditioned offering at the bar (OK, maybe you haven’t but Bob’s back in his native England now and fair game.)

No matter, a quick ring to Doyle’s today (Wed. 4-1) was answered by Chester (who appeared on Billy Costas’s show TV Diner) and says pre-entries are at 1400+. There is still time to enter online at or the day of the race (it’s this Sunday!). (At signmeup click on Events and scroll to 4-5.)

Unlike Doyle’s usual raw and overcast weather with temps in the 40s, race day is forecast to have bountiful sun with temps in the upper 50s. Last year there were 2,088 entrants and 1,817 finishers, second in size to the 2,125 signees in 1999, the third year of the race and its second as “The Cornerstone of the NER Pub Series.”

Chester is predicting an influx of “fair weather” runners and a record field is guaranteed if Team Fabulous does a status update on its Face Book page and rallies the troops.
