Chicago Marathon Registration Open Today (Feb. 1)

Bank of America Chicago Marathon Registration Opens Today
33rd Annual Event to Take Place on October 10

CHICAGO, IL (February 1, 2010) –
Online registration for the 2010 Bank of America Chicago Marathon
opened to the public today at chicagomarathon.com. The 33rd edition of
the 26.2-mile race will be held on October 10 – 10/10/10 – beginning
and ending in Chicago’s historic Grant Park. Registration is open to
the first 45,000 registered participants.

“It
is our honor to continue the tradition of the Bank of America Chicago
Marathon, a race that unites 45,000 runners locally and from around the
world who come to Chicago for this event, solidifying Chicago as a
leading global city,” said Tim Maloney, Bank of America Chicago and
Illinois market president. “Even more rewarding is this event helps
raise over $10 million for charitable causes and provides a tremendous
economic benefit to the city, specifically with $143 million in
economic impact in 2008 alone.”

More
than 100 nonprofit organizations are building teams of runners to raise
funds for their causes. Upon registration, participants are encouraged
to consider joining a charity team to make their experience more
meaningful and contribute to the event’s growing impact around the
world. In 2009, a record 8,500 runners registered as part of a charity
team and collectively raised $10 million for 123 organizations around
the world.

Along
with its stewardship of the Chicago Marathon, Bank of America also
produces the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K, which will host
36,000 participants in Chicago on March 21. The two events are the
cornerstones of the bank’s presence in endurance events and great
examples of how it continues to support the Chicago community.

The 2010 Bank of America Chicago
Marathon will start and finish in Chicago’s Grant Park beginning at
7:30 a.m. on October 10. In advance of the race, a two-day Health &
Fitness Expo will be held at McCormick Place on Friday, October 8 and
Saturday, October 9. One of only five World Marathon Majors races, the
Chicago Marathon has played home to four world records as a result of
its renowned flat, and therefore fast, course. Each year, the race
helps to raise $10 million for affiliated charities and in 2008
generated a reported $143 million economic impact to the city of
Chicago. More information on the race, registration and how to get
involved is available at chicagomarathon.com.
