Falmouth, MA. March 12, 2011 – The New Balance Falmouth Road Race is
announcing some organizational changes for 2011. Long time
co-directors, Lucia and John Carroll have retired after nearly four
decades of invaluable service to the summer classic. Co-directors
Richard and Kathleen Sherman have resigned after the same period of
invaluable service to the race. The former co-directors have all agreed
to advise and assist with the road race. Matt Auger has been named
acting director for the 2011 New Balance Falmouth Road Race.
ÛÏThe board of directors would like to give thanks beyond words to the
Carrolls and the Shermans for all they have done to grow and nurture
the New Balance Falmouth Road Race from its inception,Û said Christine
Frazier, president board of directors. ÛÏThey grew this small fun run
into a Û÷mustÛª on the international summer road race circuit. Throughout
their leadership, the race has also contributed to athletic and charity
organizations to make significant positive impacts in peopleÛªs lives.
We are proud to make this a year to celebrate the legacy of these four
individuals.Û
ÛÏAfter 38 years, this was the right time to step down from our
positions as co-directors. There is a dedicated, hard-working board of
directors who individually and as a group are committed to the future
success of the race. There is a new, long-term title sponsorship
agreement with New Balance, which will enable the race to flourish and
grow. We are available to consult with the race in any capacity
throughout the remainder of the year and look forward to welcoming
runners to Falmouth in August,Û said Lucia and John Carroll, Directors
Emeriti of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race.
ÛÏWithout Rich and Kathy Sherman the Falmouth Road Race would not be the
event many people have come to appreciate over the last four decades.
Their guidance in the years to come will be invaluable as the race
progresses and continues to develop,Û continued Frazier.
The New Balance Falmouth Road Race will be held on Sunday, August 14,
2011, with Matt Auger as acting director. Matt has been involved with
the road race for the last 18 years in various capacities and has been
an integral part of the management team for the past several years.
Matt lives in Mashpee with his wife and two young children.
ÛÏThe board of directors unanimously voted Matt Auger as acting director
for the 2011 New Balance Falmouth Road Race,Û Frazier said. ÛÏMatt has
been in integral part of the race for so many years that we are
confident in his ability to lead this race this year. Matt will have
the full support of the board as we plan the 2011 New Balance Falmouth
Road Race.Û
