Pickle Power, Tinger A Titan at McGuiggan’s Pub 5K

Quite obviously the hit at McGuiggan’s‰ÛÓbeyond the dashing
exploits of Publicans on the move‰ÛÓwas the
tremendous voice and energy of vocalist Kristen
with her band, Artic

Given the $2 hot dogs and 8
oz Coors Lite (with Blue Moon for sale), lack of H2O & food, this was a
money grab along the order of one of our first races ‰ÛÓ the Eagle Brook Saloon
5M in 1998 that charged for beer (which had been donated) and food, and also
had a band, but not nearly as good.

If you’d like to learn more
about Artic Playground or catch a few more of their tunes, here’s their link.

After the Pub Series vacated
Eagle Brook, the race stumbled on for a few years before completely folding.

A bit of heeded advice and a
field that drops back to a comfortable 150 ala last year, and McGuiggan’s could
become a nice regional attraction. We’ve passed on comments to the RD who,
unfortunately, didn’t have much control over post-race activities.

But we must hoist our coolers
and travel on to the Brew Run and Paddy’s, both proven commodities on the malt
and hops trail.

As for McGuiggan’s, Doyle’s
champ Greg Picklesimer and
Somerville RR teammate Mariah Tinger
reigned supreme.

Picklesimer took control
before the 2nd mile (10:10) and closed the show in 15:56. Although trailing
Greg Ward of CMS by 10m at 3M, Pub leader Lee
produced another wait and kick effort to vault into second and
lose only one point to the winner to stay 12 points ahead ‰ÛÓ 194 to 182.

Senior stud Mark Reeder put in a mammoth effort to
place 5th overall and move into a tie for third with Terry McNatt of CSU.

North Shore speedster John Ayers went down faster than an 8
oz. Coors Lite, while UK juggernaught Macdara
vaulted up the standings into 6th.

Surprised by her own
gathering momentum, Ms. Tinger maintained a 6:11 pace to win in 19:14 and earn
50 big ones but is handicapped by a missed opportunity from race numero uno, An
Ra’s M’or.

Golden Girl Meaghan Scearbo of HFC (formerly
“Forever Bronze”) solidified her lofty perch with a quick final scamper past
Master Blaster Petra Platt of
Whirlaway to garner third overall in 20:15 with Petra one tick back.

SRR’s Jennifer Rapaport succumbed to nerves associated with the grainy
glory of the Pub Series, but nonetheless held onto second overall in the Series
with Eileen Cakouros in third and
saucy Sarah Phillips in fourth. Marge Bellise moves into fifth but
Petra is nipping at her heels two points in arrears.

Although sighted at the earlier
(like 8 am) BAA 10K, the BAA’s defending Pub Queen, Kristin Murphy, did not run either race (and is Gonzo!) and 2011
silver contender Rachel Shanley is sidelined with injury (though still eligible
for shoes and the party with three races completed at present).

The Penultimate Pub Series
Race is the day before Falmouth in Brewster by the Woodshed Pub & Restaurant (we head further south) ‰ÛÓ The 33rd Brew Run 5.2M on August 13.
