Quincy Half Hangs in Balance After Snow Stoppage

For the first time in its short history, the Quincy Half
Marathon scheduled for this past Sunday, March 10, was postponed due to the
heavy snowfall which surprised both weather forecasters and local residents the
previous Friday.

The storm and the subsequent concerns that arose regarding
public safety were factors well beyond the control of race officials
While the postponement was a disappointment to all, race
officials will not question or second-guess the difficult real-time decision
the Quincy Police Department had to make.

While Sunday may have indeed appeared to be a fine day to go
for a run, the addition of 1,000-plus runners to city streets, many of which
remained clogged by the robust snowfall, would have been a risk to runners and
motorists alike. All parties involved in this event believe the safety is
paramount and strive to always ensure it for competitors and the general public

Race officials are in the process of developing a series of
options acceptable to all entrants and are working hard to get everybody back
on the roads. Stay tuned for updates regarding these options at Half of Quincy

While many details remain to be worked out, updates will be available via our website or Facebook page. In short order,
race officials will announce details that should be satisfactory to all.

Thank you for your patience in this matter,
JJ Larner
Race Director
