LONDON (19-Apr) -- Organizers of Sunday's Virgin London Marathon here have committed to raise approximately USD 100,000 for victims of Monday's bombing at the
Boston Marathon. The London Marathon Trust will donate £2 for every finisher of Sunday's race to the newly established Boston One Fund which was created to help
victims and which has already topped USD 10 million according to the Boston Herald newspaper.
"Everyone connected with the London Marathon was shocked by the terrible events in Boston, and we are keen to show our support to the victimsÛª families and our
friends in the running community there," said London race director Hugh Brasher through a statement yesterday. "As soon as we heard about The One Fund Boston we
decided to make a donation. Our pledge to give £2 for every finisher at the 2013 Virgin London Marathon seemed an appropriate and fitting way to make our
contribution."
Separately, the New York Road Runners announced that Sunday's four mile race in Central Park in New York City, the annual City Parks Foundation Run for the Parks
4 Mile, will honor the Boston victims with a moment of silence at the beginning of the race, the distribution of "I Run for Boston" back bibs and black ribbons,
and the opportunity for each runner to donate $20 and receive a special T-shirt. Moreover, the City Parks Foundation will donate USD 1 of every entry fee.
All proceeds will go to the Boston One Fund.
Donations can be made securely and directly by anyone to the Boston One Fund at http://www.onefundboston.org/
