The Michigan Mile Race Series, part of the HealthPlus Crim Festival of Races,
will be held on Friday, August 23 in Flint, MI. The Michigan Mile is the 13th stop on the BBTM Tour 2013 and features a new Friday night start time as well as a $10,000 total prize purse for the professional Men and Women. We sat down with Flint native and first year race director, Andrew Younger, to discuss innovating after 30-plus years, ‘Run Flint’ and The Crim Fitness Foundation. It is exactly these types of events that can not only showcase how impactful the running community can be, but also in turn how impactful a community can be on the participants. Run a Mile with Rankin: The Other Kingdom |
|
By Jon Rankin, BBTM CA State Mile Captain

I have waited to write my second blog post for Bring Back the Mile,
not because I didnÛªt have a lot to say since being named CaliforniaÛªs State Captain, but rather, because I have so much to say. The prestige and mystique around the magical barrier of a sub-4 minute Mile is the perfect distance, which has recaptured my heart through the eyes of California high school kids that I have been asking them to join me in bringing back the Mile. Since beginning this journey with Bring Back the Mile, it has given me perspective on why I love the Mile and why I love to run. My love for the iconic distance has begun to grow larger because IÛªm now seeing with my own eyes and listening with my own ears just how excited student-athletes are that they may get the chance to run the Mile rather than the 1600 meters. The high school kids IÛªve met with want to experience what I call Û÷The Other KingdomÛª. Continue reading at bringbackthemile.com |
Centrowitz improves to silver at Worlds |

MOSCOW ÛÓ As Matthew Centrowitz raced
around the final bend, about to accelerate into his finishing kick, his dad’s TV went blank. Of the millions of people who watched the 23-year-old American surge for a silver medal Sunday in the men’s 1500 meters at the World Championships, his father wasn’t one of them. “Our feed died with about 200 (meters) to go,” said the elder Centrowitz, a two-time U.S. Olympic team member who was back home in Washington, D.C., and trying to watch the race on television at a local sports bar. “We didn’t see the finish.” If he did, he would have been proud. Instead, he had to wait a minute or two. Two years after coming out of nowhere to win the bronze medal at the 2011 Worlds in South Korea, Centrowitz did one better at Luzhniki Stadium ÛÓ the same venue that his father, a 5000 meter runner on the boycotting 1980 U.S. Olympic team, never got to experience. Jenny Simpson leads silver night for Team USA at Worlds |
|
By Nick Zaccardi, NBC Sports | |
Jenny Simpson won one of three silver
medals for the U.S. at the World Track & Field Championships on Thursday in a 1500 meter final where 17-year-old Mary Cain finished a respectable 10th. The 1500 was the key event for American fans on ThursdayÛªs schedule at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Simpson, 26, came in as the defending world champion. Cain impressed in becoming the youngest woman ever to make the 1500 final at the World Championships. ÛÏWe can do another round,Û Simpson told NBC Sports reporter Lewis Johnson on Universal Sports. ÛÏIÛªm ready for a fourth round. Û_ I was so tired at the end because I led so much of it. I tried so hard to catch Aregawi. Û_ ThatÛªs the hardest IÛªve ever run (trying to catch her) in my life.Û Continue reading at bringbackthemile.com |
