Fun in the Sun at Bernie’s Run

Good weather, a fast course, and an expansive back lot to the
Village Manor made for a great post-race gathering spot as a number of
clubs‰ÛÓHFC, Thristy Irish, Whirlaway, CSU, Somerville and, of course, Team
Fabulous showed in force for Pub Series Race No. 5.

Although Candice
Gagnon
of Team Fabulous handed the BAA’s Amanda Watters a rare loss (18:18 to 19:16), with Master Blaster Holly Madden offering Candice an
additional point as she took 2nd place (18:49)‰ÛÓWatters still has a comfortable overall Series
lead and that seems pretty much the score throughout the divisions as we head
to the Grand Finale at Paddy’s Pub in W. Newton on Oct. 19.

Likewise, in the men’s race, SRR’s Greg Picklesimer came on strong for 2nd (15:29) to provide Series leader TJ Unger (15:12) with an additional point over
No. 2 Lee Danforth (15:48) of HFC, but the
closest contest left is in the 70-79 division where Rich Paulson holds a 2-point lead over Dave Pember. Ironically, Paulson came in behind Bill Riley and
ahead of Pember at Paddy’s last year and the division ended in a tie between Pember
and Riley (although Riley face planted at the finish in the Series’ toughest
point accumulation attempt).

A 40×60 American Flag flew over the Manor’s Parking Lot, Rene Rancourt sang the national anthem
and for those who missed it, a great video and tribute to the late Bernie Logue played on a large
projector screen post-race courtesy of videographer Bob Stanley.

See ya’ll in two weeks. If you’re leading a division stop by
the NER tent at Paddy’s to pick up your maillot
jeune
(leader’s jersey) and if  Paddy’s will be your 6th Pub race send your jacket size to Michelle at MickMen’s Standings  Women’s Standings
