11 Year-Old World Record Holder Running 5th Ave. Mile

World‰Ûªs Top Milers and Runners of All Ages and Abilities to Race at 2015 NYRR 5th Avenue Mile on Sunday, September 13

 

Defending women‰Ûªs champion American Jenny
Simpson and top American milers Matthew Centrowitz and Bernard Lagat,
and 11-year-old mile world-record holder Jonah Gorevic from New York to
lead elite field of runners in the world‰Ûªs most iconic road mile

 

6,000 runners are expected for the 35th annual NYRR 5th Avenue Mile, with races beginning at 8:25 a.m.

 

WHAT:

2015 NYRR 5th Avenue Mile

Approximately 6,000 runners of all ages and
abilities will race down a famous 20-block stretch of 5th Avenue led by
world-class Olympians and World Championships medalists.

 

Age group and specialty races will take place
throughout the day beginning at 8:25 a.m., including the NYPD/FDNY
Mile, the NYRR Road Mile Championships for local, elite athletes, and
the Youth Mile for kids ages 8-14 featuring 11-year-old-mile world
record-holder Jonah Gorevic of Rye, NY.  New this year, the Youth
Wheelchair Invitational Exhibition, will feature seven remarkable kids
ages 11 to 17 from the tri-state area, racing the one mile stretch.

Start Line: 5th Avenue at 80th Street

Finish Line: 5th Avenue at 60th Street

 

Ideal coverage time: 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Jenny Simpson, 29, of Boulder, CO, is a three-time NYRR 5th Avenue Mile champion and
the 2011 World 1500-meter champion

Shannon Rowbury, 30, of Portland, OR, is a two-time NYRR 5th Avenue Mile champion and
the American record-holder in the 1500-meters

·        
Matthew Centrowitz, 25, of Portland, OR, is the 2012 NYRR 5th Avenue Mile champion and
the 2013 World 1500-meter silver-medalist

·        
Bernard Lagat, 40, of Tucson, AZ, is the 2011 NYRR 5th Avenue Mile champion and a two-time
Olympic 1500-meter medalist

·        
Nick Willis, 32, of New Zealand, is a two-time NYRR 5th Avenue Mile champion and the
2008 Olympic 1500-meter silver medalist

·        
Jonah Gorevic, 11, of Rye, NY, is the 11- and 10-year-old world record holder in the
mile, competing for the Tailwind Track Club

·        
Mike Brannigan, 18, of Northport, NY, is the 1500-meter Paralympic world record-holder.
Mike, who has autism, will be competing for the New York Athletic Club in the NYRR Road Mile Championships
