On Wednesday, February 3, 2016, runners from around the world will climb the 1,576 steps and 86 floors of the WorldÛªs Most Famous Building in the 39th Annual
Empire State Building Run-Up Presented by Marmot ÛÒ the worldÛªs
oldest and most famous tower race. While visitors can reach the
buildingÛªs Observatory via elevator in under a minute, the fastest
runners cover the 86 floors in about 10 minutes. Leaders
in the sport of professional tower-running will converge at Empire
State Building to take part in the menÛªs and womenÛªs elite heats,
challenging both body and mind in what some consider the ultimate test
of endurance.
Additional heats will include: Invitational
(lottery entry system); Media and Celebrities; New York City Real Estate
Brokers; Marmot (presenting sponsor); Challenged Athletes Foundation
(CAF) (official charity partner); and Multiple Myeloma
Research Foundation (MMRF).The selection of runners in the CAF heat
will fundraise to help CAF’s work to provide opportunities and
assistance to people with physical disabilities so that they can pursue
active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive
athletics.
The Run-Up has become a bucket list event for athletes across the globe and of
the thousands who enter the invitational lottery for an opportunity to
race, only a select few will have the chance to participate.
