Poised to Set Record for Most Wins in Race‰Ûªs History

 

WHAT:                  40th Annual Empire State Building Run-Up Presented by Marmot

Racing up 86 floors, 1,576 steps and 1,050 feet from the lobby to the iconic 86th
floor Observatory, 200-plus participants from around the world will
race up to the top of the World’s Most Famous Building in the 40th Annual Empire State Building Run-Up Presented by Marmot.

 

WHO:                    Professional Stair-Climbers:

  • Suzy Walsham, Defending Women‰Ûªs Champion (SIN):
    Last year‰Ûªs victory, her seventh, continued her streak of holding the
    record for most victories in the women‰Ûªs race. Should she be victorious
    this year, she will be the winningest runner in the race‰Ûªs history.
  • Darren Wilson, Defending Men‰Ûªs Champion (AUS): Wilson
    took first place in the 2016 men‰Ûªs invitational race with a time of
    10:36. He placed second and third in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Celebrity Stair-Climbers:

  • Patrick Wilson, movie, television and Broadway actor, star of The Conjuring 2
  • Theo Rossi, actor and producer, star in Netflix Series Marvel‰Ûªs Luke Cage and FX series Sons of Anarchy

Challenged Athletes Foundation Stair-Climbers:

  • Roseann Sdoia, Boston Marathon bombing survivor:
    Sdoia was injured, losing part of her right leg, during the second
    blast at the 2013 Boston Marathon. She will be running with her rescuer,
    now fiancée, Mike Materia, a Boston firefighter.
  • Sarah Reinertsen, former Paralympic track athlete:
    Reinertsen, who will be returning for her second Empire State Building
    Run-Up, was the first amputee woman to complete the Ironman Kona. She
    has won accolades from the USOC and was named ESPN‰Ûªs Best Female Athlete
    with a Disability.

8:30 p.m.             Marmot, MMRF, Lottery, NYPD, FDNY, ESRT Tenants & Employees (at 5 second intervals)

 

PRESS INFO:       Media entrance and check-in: West 34th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues

Members of the media may choose to film/photograph the race at the start (lobby level) and finish (86th floor) OR in the stairwell on the 65th floor. Please note: It is not possible to film both the start/finish and within the stairwell. Space on the 65th floor is extremely limited; please contact UEG in advance to reserve a spot in this location.

 

All post-race interviews and award presentations will be on the 80th
floor, to which top finishers and other notable participants will be
escorted immediately after finishing the race. Interviews will not be
granted at the finish line.
