Celebrating 41 Years of Women’s Health, and Fitness
Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women
October 9, 2017
Boston, MA – September 14, 2017 – On Monday, October 9, 2017, thousands of women will come together for the 41st running of the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women. This Columbus Day road race tradition is expected to attract more than 7,000 passionate and enthusiastic females of all ages and athletic abilities and 20,000 fans from all over the country.
“The Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women now has generations of women from many families enjoying this fall tradition in Boston,” said Dusty Rhodes, race founder and president of Conventures, Inc. “It is an event that empowers women, inspires them, and allows females of all ages to come together to inspire one another,” she added. “As I stand at the finish line every year, seeing that is what drives me to keep this race going.”
“The dedication of the women and men who run and walk – whether it is their first year or their 41st, is truly outstanding,” said Tom Croswell, president and CEO of Tufts Health Plan, lead sponsor of the race. “There is no other race out there quite like this one. We are encouraged by everyone’s commitment to wellness, and excited to once again join together to celebrate a day that focuses on living life to the healthiest.”
In addition to the race, a variety of activities and sponsors focused on supporting women’s health and wellness will be on display on the Boston Common starting at 9:00 a.m. Attendees may browse new fitness clothing and accessories, sample healthy foods and enjoy fitness demonstrations and many other tools used to encourage people to take part in an active and healthy lifestyle.
Established in 1977, the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women course is one-of-a-kind and highlights the very best of Boston in the fall. Starting and ending at the Boston Common, the race winds through historic Back Bay before heading into Cambridge for a loop along the Charles River.
This year’s race will kick-off at 10:50 a.m. on the corner of Beacon and Charles Street with a warm-up by Eliza Shirazi, founder of Kick It, a popular Boston based fitness class. The race will officially start at 12 noon. For the younger runners, a free 1K Fun Run (recommended for children ages 10 and under) will start at 10:30 a.m. on the Boston Common.
Pre-Race Registration costs $45 and is available online until 4:00 p.m. on October 8, 2017 and by mail if received by October 2, 2017. Race Day Registration costs $60 and will be available on the Boston Common from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on October 9, 2017.
