Congrats to Conn. natives and standout Olympic trialists Jonas Hampton and Annmarie Tuxbury. No strangers to the pages of NER, Jonas was the magazine’s male Runner of the Year in 2015 & 2017 with Annmarie the female pick as ROY in 2018-2019.
Both receive a new pair of shoes (valued at $130) from our good friends at Marathon Sports (in-store now open).
As appeared in the June issue of NER:
Self-coached and unsponsored, Conn. native and Newtonville, MA runner Jonas Hampton really ramped it up approaching the Trials in Atlanta.
On Jan. 18 he clocked 1:03:22 for a 4:50 per mile avg. at the Arizona Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. His best performance came on the big stage in Atlanta. Splitting 1:05:42 halfway on the tough Trials course, Hampton would PR in 2:12:10 to place 8th overall.

Of her three marathons, West Hartford, CT runner Annmarie Tuxbury’s latest was a PR 2:44:17 at Vermont City in May of 2018.
Longtime coach Ray Lapinski said she would have run the distance last fall if not for hamstring woes. With nary a twinge, Tuxbury ran a half the same weekend as Hampton, only in Naples, FL in a PR 1:14:17 good for 3rd.
Then before Atlanta, again the hamstring. A sometime concern over the tough Atlanta course, Annmarie reached halfway in 1:17:05, had to slow over the second half but still reached the finish in a huge PR of 2:39:05, good for 35th out of 390 finishers.
