With a designation for both ME & NH as COVID red zone states a few days before the USATF-NE XC Championships at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, NH-compounded by a midnight race eve mandate for MA residents to quarantine for 14 days after traveling to said states-a bit of a damper to attendance was experienced, but the show went on with wave starts, masks pre and post race, and social distancing the order of the day.

Former Providence All American and current Ocean State AC ace Catarina Rocha immediately distanced herself from the women’s field 5K to win in 16:20. Following 18 seconds later was the GBTC’s Jessica Cardin. A 4X MASCAC XC champion while at Westfield State (’18) Cardin led her GBTC squad to the women’s title over the HFC Striders. Emerging Elite’s Margot Appleton, 18, took 3rd in 17:50.

The men’s race was tighter with a competitive lead pack still hanging tight at 2-miles. Western Mass Distance Project ace Timothy Gill would finally forge a gap over Battle Road TC teammates John Sava and Dan McSolla. Gill gained the finish in 14:50 with Sava/McSolla following in 14:57-14:58. Battle Road would clinch the team battle rather handily over the Central Mass Striders.
