Pubsters Get Their Freak On at Damien’s in 2022 NER Pub Series Finale

Great weather and a wild time at Damien’s Freaky 5K in Hanson.

Most asked question at Paddy’s, Race No. 4 – “Where’s Hanson?”

Most asked question at Damien’s – Is there going to be a post-race Series gathering.

Well yes, ‘Don’t know where, don’t know when, but keep smiling ‘till then’…. Actually, it won’t be until after the 1st of the year and most likely the early spring, somewhere in conjunction with the 2023 Series where we’re looking to get the wheels back on the track. We’ll get word out.

Patrick Bugbee and Brian McCarthy.

Meanwhile, CSU point man Patrick Bugbee bookended his championship season with wins at Evan’s Run and Damien’s after holding off a challenge from Master runner and hometown hero Brian McCarthy. Patrick finished in 16:14 with McCarthy at 17:05 and placing 2nd in the Series M40 division.

CSU teammates Doug Johnson and Jason Goldshmidt continued their season-long tete-a-tete with Jason 4-seconds ahead of Doug in 17:08 to solidify silver with Logan forging bronze. Of course Logan is a senior at 53, but a Super Senior, which is what’s needed to knock Pickle Power from the podium.

Frank Nelson and Terry McNatt.

New Bedford’s Pete Danzell clinched the Vets division over warhorse Dave Wessman of the Thristy Irish runners.

79 year-olds Rich Paulson and Dave Pember went 1-2 among septuagenarians while Ozone Warrior Phil Pierce of Falmouth, ME prevailed over the Cape’s Bill Riley by 2-points.

HFC’s past women’s Pub champion Christina Campbell and Nicole Nelson both placed in the top-10 going 8-10 with Christina first across the line in 18:10 and Nicole following in 18:25. The flu took Christina out of Paddy’s where Nicole ran for the win and the top spot in the Series.

Sue McNatt.

Is top W50 Sue McNatt of CSU throwing a little shade hubby Terry’s way? Sue clinched third overall while sweeping the Senior set.

Great to see Claire McManus back from an extended stay in Ireland following her mother’s passing. She was happy to see good pal Marge Bellisle reign supreme at W60 with Marshfield Road Runner Cassandra Clancy in second.

No Septuagenarian made more than 3 races but Ozone Warrior Anne Marie McDonald, 82, did.

School’s out for the 2022 Pub Series. Thanks for a great season and we look forward to seeing everyone sooner than later!
