Who did not get an Old School kick out of Connolly’s Kick in for Kids 5K? Named for recently retired (but in attendance with beer and trash bag in hand) Woburn Boys & Girls Executive Director John Connolly, this seemed to be a well-kept secret of the Shamrock AC.
If ever there was a party to crash, this was it, the only drawback being March weather in April. And for Pub Series leaders (after 1 race) Patrick and Elizabeth Bugbee the lingering (Patrick) and beyond lingering (Elizabeth) effects of the flu.

Scott Grandfield, HFC’s Tim Gavin and CSU’s Jason Goldschmidt.
HFC’s Tim Gavin clocked in just 13 seconds behind the winner in 17:13 followed by CSU’s Jason Goldschmidt and Bugbee with Patrick B. retaining a 3-point lead over Gavin and 5 over Goldschmidt in the overall scoring. Super Senior Doug Johnson of CSU is 5 points behind Jason.

Past Pub Series Women’s Champions Ginger Reiner (L) and Mimi Fallon (R).
The women’s race wasn’t as kind to flu addled Elizabeth Bugbee. Past Pub Series women’s champion Ginger Reiner placed 2nd and fellow past Pub Series women’s champion Mimi Fallon placed 5th with CSU’s Jennifer Johnson also arriving before Bugbee in 10th.
So Marvelous Mimi now holds a 6-point lead over Elizabeth while Jennifer (who missed the first race) slides into 4th overall.

Publicans Greg Picklesimer and Michael McGrane.
Next up is the Riverwalk Brewery IPA 5K in Newburyport on Sunday, July 19. This was a favorite a few years back but it can be pricey and looking at the website today (May 15) the price was $49 with 359 slots left. However, New England Runner has entered as a team and when we reach 10 sign-ups everyone gets $10.00 off their entry. So when you sign up and it gives you the option of signing up for a team, it’s New England Runner for $10.00 off.
