Pub Series Stop No. Four A Notch Above

How about a round of applause for yours truly getting the standings in order 6-days before the next Pub Series showdown. Thank-you, you’re too kind. Of course we’re only 7-days removed from a wildly good time at the North Shore RunFest USATF-NE 8K Championship and Pub Series 5K.

How about CSU’s Doug Johnson (missed a race, tied for 2nd among Seniors) pulling in second overall in 18:19!? Or Pickle Power on display placing 5th overall in the 5K at 19:10 after copping the top Veteran’s slot (Yes, Pickle is 60!) in the 8K Championship in 28:32!? Macdara Nash is now also the Big 6-0 (!?) and placed 10th overall in 20:34.

Pub Points attributed at the 5K distance for those running for teams in the 8K Championship were based on the average pace per mile logged for the longer distance and where that would place in the 5K.

Thus, Pub Series leader Patrick Bugbee would have placed 2nd in the 5K, but instead left that position’s stunning visual to CSU teammate Johnson. Chivalry.

By breaking out some Masters points, RI’s Carla Colcord now rules the W40 roost.

You would think Liberty ace and past Pub Series Women’s Champion Mimi Fallon would be throwing away her 4-point lead over Elizabeth Bugbee by running the 8K, but that’s not quite how it worked out despite Elizabeth bagging third female overall in the 5K at 20:34 (7:05 pace).

Mimi at 7:10 pace out sped the next female behind Elizabeth who finished at 7:14 pace. So now the two frontrunners are separated by 3-points. It is getting gritty.

Colonial Road Runner Betsy Knapp, numero uno at W80.

Colonial’s Ken O’Brien, scorer in the M60 division.

Breaking News: With Bugbee and CSU’s Jason Goldschmidt sitting atop the overall Leaderboard, and the only two Masters who’ve scored, that category will be vacant, just like the Women’s Masters division last year, but not this, as Cumberland, RI’s Carla Colcord picked up 22 overall points and three Masters points on race day. Carla was in the same position last year but missed the final two races. Stay the course!

Plymouth’s Ed Dowling, 4 for 4 on the circuit as a Pub Series Perambulator.

Just one point separates Greater Springfield Harrier Scott Grandfield and Somerville Road Runner Chris Smith at M60 while, on the converse side of the coin, Gary Morin, Kristen Majka, Marianne Withington, Rich Paulson and Betsy Knaap look more than solid with two races remaining.

Next up is the 9th Hop Harvest 5K at the Vitamin Sea Brewery in Weymouth this Sunday (9-13) at 9:30 am (RunSignUp). Sign Up Here See you there!
